March 1st, 1952 to April 2nd, 2008

I didn't know at the time of naming the Teahouse after Katy, just how meaningful that would become. She was a very special person.

Katy touched the lives of many, many people.

The celebration movie below was played on a large screen at Katy’s Celebration of Life held at The Jack Douglas Saloon in Columbia, California on June 8, 2008.

Her obituary, June 2nd 2008, The Union Democrat, Sonora, CA

Columbia resident Kathryn "Katy" Rae (Tout) McMahon died April 2 at a Sonora hospital. She was 56 years old. Born and raised in Stockton, she lived in Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County, before moving to Columbia two years ago. There, she opened Columbia Kate's, a Victorian teahouse.

She was self-taught in antiques and genealogy and had traced her family lineage to pre-revolutionary War America. She was trained as an attorney, but worked as a community development specialist in the early years of eBay.

She enjoyed reading, music, art and gardening in her herb garden in the backyard of Columbia Kate's. She recently learned to play the ukulele with her teacher and best friend, Peggy "Auntie Uke" Reza.

She realized a life long dream when with her other best friend, Clare Bazley, she opened Columbia Kate's - a teahouse, at the corner of Columbia Street and State Street in Columbia on February 1, 2007.

All I Want For Christmas

All I want for Christmas is a lump of coal, a million years old, set in gold.
All I want for Christmas is a lump of coal, would you sell your soul for me?
All I want for Christmas is a plain little stone, of my own, we can get a loan.
All I want for Christmas is a plain little stone, work your fingers to the bone for me.

CHORUS:
All I want for Christmas is a girl's best friend, I know a jeweler I could recommend.
All I want for Christmas is a girl's best friend to keep me company.
All I want for Christmas is a faceted rock, this ain't no crock, put one in my sock.
All I want for Christmas is a faceted rock, would you go in hock for me?

CHORUS:
All I want for Christmas is a girl's best friend, I know a jeweler I could recommend.
All I want for Christmas is a girl's best friend to keep me company.
All I want for Christmas is a karat or more, don't be a bore, what else are men for?
All I want for Christmas is a karat or more, with color, cut and clarity, I'd keep it under lock and key.
Work your fingers to the bone fore me.

Written By Katy McMahon, and performed by her in 2007. Katy's song and music recorded by Peg Reza.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow sung by Clare Bazley.

SPECIAL REMEMBRANCES

As one of the first three Community Development employees of eBay (known as "Pinks" in the eBay vernacular), Katy made literally thousands of online friends. At the most recent (June, 2008) user conference, eBay Live! 2008 held in Chicago, many of those friends honored Katy with special pink boas and other eBay mementos. Thanks to eBay user giraffer for these photos.
